DHAKA, Sept 9, 2025(BSS) - A court here today granted two-day remand to former Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Md Mukib Miah in a case lodged over attempt to murder of Dhaka College student Majedul Islam during last year’s July uprising.

Mukib Miah was the Mass Education Affairs Secretary of banned BCL central committee and also a former assistant professor of a government college.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque passed the order as police produced Mukib Miah before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand.

According to the case documents, Majedul Islam, a student of Dhaka College, along with his friend Mehedi Hassan and Eden College student Shammi Akhter, received bullet injuries in New Market Thana area during the mass uprising on August 2, 2024.

A cousin of Majedul Islam on August 26 last year filed an attempt to murder case with New Market Thana in this connection.

The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Mukib Miah from the city on February 3 while he was distributing leaflets as part of the programme announced by Bangladesh Awami League.
