Ex-NBR member Motiur, his wife sent to jail in graft case

DHAKA, Sept 16, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today ordered to send ex-NBR member Md Motiur Rahman, infamous for the “goat scandal” and his wife Laila Kaniz to jail in a graft case.

Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Md Monirul Islam after hearing the statement of the prosecution side passed the order while the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case produced them before the court after conclusion of their remand.

The same court on September 14 granted their one-day police remand for interrogating in connection with the corruption case. 

On January 6, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against Motiur Rahman and his wife Laila Kaniz, former chairman of Raipura Upazila Parishad in Narsingdi district, for illegally acquiring Taka 53.41 crore and suppressing wealth worth about Taka 2.45 crore.

According to the case, Motiur Rahman and his wife concealed information of Taka 2,45,34,611 in their wealth statement submitted to the ACC and acquired illegal wealth worth about Taka 53,41,38,393 which was beyond their known sources of income.

They were arrested from city’s Bashundhara residential area on January 14 last.
