Second Bangladeshi student’s body identified in US

DHAKA, May 01, 2026 (BSS)- US authorities have confirmed the second recovered body as Bangladeshi student Nahida Sultana Bristy, while Bangladesh’s diplomatic missions have started repatriation efforts.

Authorities in the US state of Florida confirmed that the second recovered body was that of Bristy, said Golam Mortoza, Minister (Press) at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington.

According to a message received here from Washington police in Florida contacted Bristy’s brother and formally confirmed the identification.

Following a request from the victim’s family, the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington in coordination with the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Miami, has begun the process of repatriating her body to Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, the body of Jamil Ahmed Limon, one of the two Bangladeshi students killed in the United States, is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on May 4.

Limon and Bristy, both 27-year-old Bangladeshi doctoral students of University of South Florida (USF) were killed suspected by another former USF student and roommate Palestine origin Hisham Abugharbieh. 

Limon and Bristy had been missing since April 16. According to investigators, Limon was last seen at an off-campus apartment complex where he lived with Hisham Abugharbieh, 26.

Investigators later tracked cellphone location data and licence plate reader records that led them to a bridge where Limon’s body was recovered on April 24.

Authorities said Limon had sustained multiple stab wounds and appeared to have been bound. A second body was recovered from a nearby waterway on April 26, which has now been officially identified as Bristy.

The suspect was later arrested by a SWAT team at his parents’ residence and was ordered held without bond by Logan Murphy of Hillsborough County Court during a hearing in Tampa.
