4 AL leaders including panel mayor of Manikganj sent to jail

DHAKA, Sept 23, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sent four leaders of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) including the panel mayor of Manikganj Pourashava Md Arshad Ali Biswas for bringing out an anti-state procession in the capital.

The others who were sent to jail are- Vice-President of banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Government Titumir College Unit Avimannu Biswas Avi, (35) former Vice-President of BCL Lalbagh Thana Unit Md Belal Hossain Tuhin (30) and Awami Sheshchhasebok League leader Aminul Haque Faysal(46).

All the accused were produced before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Partha Bhadra and prayed for confining them in jail till the end of the investigation into a case filed against them. The court after hearing on the petition of the prosecution ordered to send them to jail.

Police on Monday night arrested them from in front of Rampura Television Centre.

According to the prosecution, the arrested people along with their accomplices brought out an anti-government procession from Malibagh rail gate to Mouchak on May 18. 

They brought out the procession in a bid to hamper the safety and security of the people as well as the state and hatching conspiracy for launching destructive acts. They under the banner of a banned political party brought out procession and chanted aggressive and anti-state slogans at that time, the prosecution added.

 Police later filed a case with city’s Shahjahanpur Thana under anti-terrorism act in this connection.
