DHAKA, Nov 17, 2025 (BSS) - Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has signed a 22-year concession agreement with Switzerland-based Medlog, a prominent global institution in internal logistics, for the operation and management of the Pangaon Internal Container Terminal (PITC).
 
The signing ceremony was held today at the Hotel Intercontinental in the city, said a press release. 
 
Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. M. Sakhawat Hussain attended the event as the chief guest.
 
Rear Admiral S.M. Moniruzzaman, Chairman of the CPA, and ATM. Anisul Millat, Managing Director of Medlog Bangladesh Private Limited, signed the contract on behalf of their respective organizations.  
 
Sakhawat Hussain stated that the agreement marks a memorable day in the history of port management.
 
He emphasized that the contract initiates a new chapter in the development of Bangladesh’s logistics and trade infrastructure. 

The adviser noted that the main beneficiaries of this investment would be the future generation who are dreaming for a new Bangladesh.

Medlog terminal agreement will transform the future of the nation’s logistics sector, he said.
 
The Pangaon Internal Container Terminal is situated on the banks of the Buriganga River near Dhaka in Keraniganj, just three kilometers from the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway. 
 
Medlog SA, operating through its local entity, Medlog Bangladesh Private Limited, will supervise the operations, supply chain, and automation of the terminal.  

The objective is to utilize Medlog’s global expertise and implement strategic plans to achieve sustainable growth, aiming to position Bangladesh as the top country in the region for internal logistics. 

To support increasing regional trade, Medlog is set to enhance the terminal’s facilities and increase its annual handling capacity to 160,000 TEUs. 

A key focus of the agreement is strengthening multimodal connectivity.

Medlog will charter internal barges to link Pangaon with other river ports and seaports.  

While barges will handle large-scale cargo, trucks, covered vans, and reefer vehicles will establish additional supply channels throughout the region. 
 
This improved intermodal transport system is expected to reduce uncertainties related to internal cargo movement and ensure reliable lead times.
