DHAKA, Nov 23, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today expressed concerned over the haphazard construction of buildings in the city without following the relevant Building Code.

"No one follows the Building Code relevant to earthquakes. Everyone is constructing buildings, raising floor after floor, however they please," he said while speaking at a Doa Mahfil (prayer gathering) organized at Nayapaltan to commemorate late former Vice President of the Jatiyatabadi Swecchasebak Dal Saiful Islam Potu.

The BNP Senior Joint Secretary General said, "Land grabbers have destroyed the canals, wetlands, and rivers of Dhaka city. Everyone is illegally constructing buildings without approval, however they can. But the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) is paying no attention to this."

"The same land grabbers who destroy canals and rivers later become leaders of political parties and become wealthy through illegal means. Such incidents have occurred more frequently during fascist Sheikh Hasina's tenure," he added.

Rizvi also recalled the political contributions of the deceased Saiful Islam Potu, saying, "Saiful was a tested leader. Despite the fascist government's relentless oppression and torture, he always stood by me in movements and struggles."
