DHAKA, Dec 18, 2025 (BSS)- The long-awaited 60-feet link road in capital's Mirpur area was formally opened to public traffic on Wednesday afternoon, 17 years after its construction began.

On the occasion Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) arranged a programme at Mirpur attended by Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb as the chief guest.

DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz presided over the event while senior officials of various departments and DNCC were present.

Highlighting the symbolic significance of the road, Taiyeb said, “This road symbolizes that if all government service-providing institutions work together in one place, it is still possible to make this city livable. We must relieve our citizens from daily inconveniences to build a just city for all.”

Speaking on the occasion, the DNCC Administrator said, “Pending projects of the city over the last 15, 20, or even 30 years are being addressed one by one. The work on the 60-feet link road had been stalled for 17 years," he said.

Several government departments were involved in this project, and coordinating work among them was said to be challenging, he added.
"Yet, we managed to complete this difficult task and made it possible to open the road for city dwellers within just two months,” he noted.

Earlier, to ease the long-standing traffic congestion in Mirpur, DNCC had taken the initiative to construct the new link road connecting the 60-feet road directly with the main Mirpur thoroughfare.

For this purpose, illegal structures were removed from plots 80800 and 40456, recorded under the Housing and Public Works Department in Ward-13, and land was acquired from the Postal Department.

Earlier, on October 16 this year, DNCC Administrator had announced the removal of encroachments and the opening of the 60-feet link road to the public after 17 years.

Previously, the 60-foot road, starting from Bangladesh Betar in Agargaon, ended before connecting with the main Mirpur-2 to Mirpur-10 road. Vehicles had to turn right onto a narrow path, causing severe traffic congestion throughout the day.

To provide a permanent solution, DNCC constructed a new connecting road on the left side that links the main road passing by Mirpur-2 Post Office. Vehicles from the 60-feet road can now directly enter the main Mirpur road via a one-way lane.
