ACC sues ex-councilor Ziaul Haque Suman and his wife on graft chares

DHAKA, Jan 01, 2026 (BSS)- Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two cases against former councilor of Chattogram City Corporation’s Ward No-39 Ziaul Haque Suman and his wife Shahanaz Akhter for acquiring illegal wealth and concealing information in their wealth statements.

Director General of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Md. Akhtar Hossain disclosed the information to the journalists at its regular media briefing at the commission’s headquarters. 

The two cases were filed with the Integrated District Office of Chattogram-1 of the ACC.

According to the first case, Ziaul Haque Suman, a former councilor and businessman of Chtattogram, concealed information about his movable and immovable assets worth about Taka 86.90 lakh in the wealth statement. He acquired and possessed wealth worth about Taka 16.51 crore that was beyond his known sources of income. 

The ACC said Suman’s total acquired assets and expenditures amount is worth about Taka 17.77 crore whereas his known sources of income has been found to be only Taka 1.26 crore.

In the second case, allegations have been brought against Suman’s wife Shahanaz Akhter that with the assistance of her husband, she acquired and possessed wealth worth about Taka 2.02 crore that is beyond her known sources of income. 

The ACC said that compared to the assets in Shahanaz Akhter’s name and the family’s expenditures, her known sources of income was found to be significantly lower.

During the investigation, acceptable documentary evidence in support of a large portion of her declared income was not found, the DG said.
