Court remands 8 over attack on Prothom Alo office

DHAKA, Jan 08, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today placed eight people on a two-day remand each in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act over the barbaric attack on the office of Daily Prothom Alo.

The remanded accused are: Nayem Islam, Saidur Rahman, Abul Kashem, Pranto Shikder, Raju Ahammed, Sagar Islam, Jahangir and Hasan.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasan Shahdat passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place them on a seven-day remand each.

Hundreds of unidentified people attacked and set fire to the office of the daily Prothom Alo in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka, between 11:15 pm on December 18 and 2:30 am on December 19, 2025.

Police and army personnel later reached to the place of occurrence and brought the situation under control. Fire service teams also rescued those trapped inside the building while extinguishing the fire.

The case was filed on December 22 with the Tejgaon Police Station.
