CTTC nabs two for assault on traffic police in city

DHAKA, Jan 14, 2026 (BSS) - The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested two individuals from the Banglamotor area for allegedly attacking traffic police on duty in the capital.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Hafizul Sheikh (42) and Md. Zahidul Islam (50).

Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Police Commissioner, Media and Public Relations Division, DMP confirmed their arrests.

The incident occurred in front of the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital under Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, where traffic police were removing an illegal shop that was obstructing traffic. 

According to CTTC sources, a group of 20-25 unidentified people, armed with bamboo sticks, iron rods and locally made weapons, formed an unlawful assembly and attacked Sergeant Md Arifuzzaman and traffic assistants assigned to him.

Following the incident, the Anti-Illegal Arms Team of the Special Action Group of CTTC conducted a raid in the Bangla Motor area at around 6:15 pm on Tuesday, using information technology support, and arrested the two accused.

The arrested persons have been handed over to Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station for further legal proceedings.
