Banned BCL leader held in Gazipur

MANIKGANJ, Jan 15, 2026 (BSS) - Police today arrested a leader of the banned organization Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from Gazipur during a special drive.

The arrestee was identified as Nazmul Huda Nayan, 28, former general secretary of the BCL Shibalaya Upazila unit in Manikganj.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Shibalaya Police Station Suman Chakraborty confirmed the matter, saying the arrestee was produced before the court today.

Nazmul Huda Nayan is the son of Khalilur Rahman of Nihalpur village under Shibalaya Upazila in the district.

Police said he is accused in three cases, including the murder case of martyred Rafiqul Islam, son of Rahij Uddin of Rupsa village under Shibalaya Upazila. Nazmul Huda had been in hiding for a long time.

Rafiqul Islam was killed on August 5, 2024, at Paturia Ghat, and a case was filed with Shibalaya Police Station on August 18, police sources said.
