Smuggler held with Indian sarees worth Tk 20.67cr in N'ganj

DHAKA, Jan 23, 2026 (BSS) - The Coast Guard has arrested a smuggler along with a large consignment of Indian sarees worth Taka 20.67 crore in Fatulla of the district for evading customs duties.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq confirmed the matter on Friday morning.

On a tip-off, members of the Pagla Coast Guard Station conducted a special operation in the area adjacent to Shibu Market under Fatulla Police Station early Thursday morning. During the operation, a suspicious covered van was stopped and recovered the sarees after searching the vehicle, he said.

The total value of the seized goods estimated at Taka 20 crore 67 lakh 50 thousand. One smuggler was arrested in connection with the illegal consignment.

Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq added that the seized goods and the vehicle were handed over to Bangshal Circle Customs and Fatulla Police Station for further legal action against the arrested smuggler and the vehicle used in the smuggling operation.
