
CHATTOGRAM, Jan 28, 2026 (BSS)- Visiting European Union ( EU) Election Observation Mission today held meeting with Bangladesh Jamaat Islami Chattogram city unit leaders and extensively shared mutual views on upcoming election related issues.
Jamaat leaders at the meeting expressed their deep concern over nomination of bank loan defaulters as a candidate in the coming national election.
However, they hoped that despite many limitations the Election Commission (EC) will be able to arrange a free, fair and credible election.
Political Analyst of EU’s Election Observation Mission Marcel Negi and Legal Analyst Erini Gounari were present at the meeting held at city office of Jamaat Islami.
Jamaat Islami was represented by city unit Ameer Md Nazrul Islam, Assistant Secretary Mohammad Ullah, Morshedul Islam Chowdhury, Organizing Secretary and the party’s candidate for Ctg-10 constituency Principal Shamsuzzaman Helali, Ctg -9 constituency Dr A K M Fazlul Haque , Ctg-11 constituency Shafiul Alam and Jammat’s city female unit secretary Farida Khanam.
The EU team inquired about overall election atmosphere, mass contact programs of different political parties and prevailing field level situation.
Jamaat Islami leaders alleged that their leaders and activists particularly female campaigners came under attack during campaign.
Jamaat leaders also alleged that EC did not pay heed to their complaint and no action against the attackers was taken.
Jamaat leaders informed the EU team that a women grand rally will be held at Suharawardi Uddyan in the capital on January 31 next in orotest against the attacks on their female leaders and workers across the country.
EU Mission members wanted to know from Jamaat female leaders about their mass contact activities and response from the electorates, the party sources said.
