DHAKA, Feb 8, 2026 (BSS) - A festive election campaign in support of the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol in favor of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman was held in the Dhaka-17 constituency on Saturday.

The campaign programme took place from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the Subastu NZ Unit area under Ward No. 18 of Gulshan Police Station, where party leaders and activists interacted with local residents, businessmen and passersby.

BNP Standing Committee Member Selima Rahman attended the programme as the chief guest, while the party's International Affairs Secretary Barrister Asim was also present.

During the campaign, they exchanged greetings with voters and urged them to cast their votes in favor of the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol.

Addressing the gathering, Selima Rahman said ensuring the victory of the 'Sheaf of Paddy' was essential to restore democracy and reestablish people's voting rights in the country.

She alleged that citizens had been deprived of their voting rights in previous elections and stressed the need for a free and fair electoral process.

Barrister Asim said safeguarding the people's right to vote was crucial to enhancing Bangladesh's international standing on issues of democracy and human rights. He also underscored the importance of greater participation by young voters in the election.

The campaign was overseen by former organizational secretary and current convener of Gulshan Thana BNP Tawhidul Alam Palash.

Leaders and activists of Gulshan Thana BNP, Jubo Dal and various associate bodies took part in the programme, which was marked by a lively and festive atmosphere.
