20 candidates lose their deposits in Bogura

BOGURA, Feb 14, 2026 (BSS) - The deposits of 20 candidates contesting in seven constituencies of Bogura in the 13th national parliamentary elections have been forfeited after failing to secure at least one-eighth of the total votes cast in their respective constituencies.

According to District Senior Election Officer Md. Fazlul Karim, the forfeiture of deposits is in line with the election law, which mandates that candidates who fail to garner one-eighth of the total votes cast will not be eligible to reclaim their deposit.

The affected constituencies and candidates are as follows: 

Bogura-2 (Shibganj): Mahmudur Rahman Manna of Nagorik Oikya, contesting with the Kettle symbol, secured 3,426 votes out of 248,493 total votes, falling short of the 31,000 votes needed to retain his deposit. Former Jatiya Party MP Shariful Islam Jinnah also lost his deposit after receiving only 434 votes in the same constituency.

Bogura-1 (Sariakandi-Sonatala): ABM Mustafa Kamal Pasha of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Md. Asadul Haque of Bangladesh Congress, and Md. Zulfikar Ali of Gono Forum all failed to meet the required votes, losing their deposits.

Bogura-3 (Adamdighi-Dupchanchia): Shahinul Islam of the Jatiya Party and Shahjahan Ali Talukder of Islami Andolan Bangladesh were among those who could not retain their deposits.

Bogura-4 (Kahalu-Nandigram): Shahin Mustafa Kamal of Jatiya Party and Muha. Idris Ali of Islami Andolan also lost their deposits in this constituency.

Bogura-5 (Sherpur-Dhunat): In the largest constituency with 409,195 total votes, Khan Qudrat-e-Saqlayen of LDP, Mir Mahmudur Rahman of Islami Andolan, and Shipon Kumar Rabidas of CPB all failed to secure enough votes to get their deposit back.

Bogura-6 (Sadar): Abdullah Al Waki of JSD, Mamunur Rashid of Islami Andolan, and Dilruba of BAS lost their deposits in this constituency.

Bogura-7 (Gabatoli-Shajahanpur): Ansar Ali of Muslim League and Shafiqul Islam of Islami Andolan were the other candidates who failed to retain their deposits.

Md. Fazlul Karim confirmed that the election law strictly enforces this provision, and it has been applied in the case of these 20 candidates across Bogura this time.
