Coast Guard seizes foreign goods worth Tk 9cr in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Feb 16, 2026 (BSS)- Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) seized a 
significant amount of Indian clothing and foreign cigarettes valued at nearly 
Taka 9 crore in a raid in Sitakunda upazila of the district today.

The operation was carried out by Coast Guard Bhatiary Station during a 
special drive on Sunday night near Choto Kumira Bazar under Sitakunda Police 
Station along the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. 

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siyam-Ul-Haque confirmed that 
an operation was conducted, based on confidential information, targeted a 
shipment of Indian sarees, three-piece sets, lehengas, and foreign cigarettes 
that were being smuggled through the area without paying customs duties.
 
During the operation, Coast Guard personnel searched a covered van and 
discovered a significant amount of Indian sarees, three-piece sets, and 
lehengas, as well as 1,298 cartons of foreign cigarettes.

The estimated market value of the seized goods is approximately Taka 9 crore.

After giving written undertakings, the Coast Guard released the driver and 
his assistant along with the covered van.

The seized goods have been transferred to Chattogram Customs House for 
further legal action.

Lieutenant Commander Siyam-Ul-Haque stated that these operations will persist 
to deter smuggling and protect government revenue.
