SYLHET, Feb 16, 2026 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has regained the Sylhet-6 parliamentary constituency, comprising Golapganj and Beanibazar upazilas, after nearly three decades in the 13th National Parliament election.

BNP-nominated candidate and Sylhet District BNP General Secretary, Advocate Emran Ahmed Chowdhury, secured a decisive victory in the February 12 polls. He defeated his nearest rival, Muhammad Selim Uddin of Jamaat-e-Islami, by a margin of 8,348 votes.

According to the official results, Emran Ahmed Chowdhury received 1,09,917 votes with the party’s electoral symbol ‘Sheaf of Paddy,’ while Selim Uddin secured 1,01,569 votes with the ‘Daripalla’ symbol.

The Sylhet-6 seat had last been won by BNP in the February 1996 national election. Since independence, no other candidate has secured victory from this constituency with a BNP nomination. The party’s latest triumph has therefore ended a long-standing electoral drought in the area.

Local BNP leaders and activists expressed excitement and enthusiasm following the victory. Grassroots leaders attributed the win to careful candidate selection, party unity, a well-structured manifesto from the party leadership, and strong public support for the BNP’s ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol.
