Two to walk gallows for killing Tejgaon College student Ekram

DHAKA, Feb 22, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today convicted and sentenced two 
people to death in a case lodged over the murder of Tejgaon College student 
Ekram Hossain Mollah in 2023.

The two death-row-convicts are Md Siddik and Md Shanto Miah.

Judge Md Sabbir Faiz of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court pronounced 
the judgment this afternoon. 

The court also sentenced them to seven-year imprisonment on the charge of 
hiding the body and fined Taka 50 thousand each.

According to the case documents, on May 4, 2023, accused Shanto Mia and 
Siddik lured Ekram out of his house on the pretext of returning money and 
took him to a sandbar between Patira and Dumni areas under Khilkhet Police 
Station, where they killed him by slitting his throat. 

Later, they dumped the body in a nearby ditch and covered it with water 
hyacinth to conceal the crime. Police recovered the body on May 6, 2023.

In this connection, victim's father Md Kabir Hossain Mollah filed a case with 
Khilkhet Police Station. Police submitted the charge sheet on November 26, 
2023. The court framed charges on February 29, 2024, and during the trial, 17 
witnesses testified before the court.
