DHAKA, Feb 26, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has nominated Rezaul Karim Badsha as its candidate for the by-election to Bogura-6, the seat vacated by BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, now prime minister, party sources said.

Rezaul Karim Badsha is currently serving as the president of the Bogura District unit of BNP

After winning in two constituencies-Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17- in the national election, Tarique Rahman relinquished Bogura-6 seat the day before taking oath.

From 1991 to 2008, BNP candidates won all national elections in the Bogura-6 seat by large margins.

Among them, the party’s late Chairperson Khaleda Zia secured landslide victories in the 1996, 2001, and 2008 elections with the party’s “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol. In the 13th parliamentary election held on 12 February, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman won the seat by a large margin.
