SYLHET, Mar 3, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam today said the ordinances adopted by the interim government will be placed in the Jatiya Sangsad on March 12.

He said this while responding to questions from journalists after a views-exchange meeting with officials and employees of the Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) here.

Shahe Alam said the interim government has issued an ordinance providing for elections to be held under general symbols instead of party symbols.

“All the ordinances will be placed in parliament on March 12. Parliament will decide on that day which ordinances will be accepted and which will not,” he said.

The state minister said the elections will not be held until the issue of the electoral symbol is resolved. If the ordinance is accepted, it will have to be passed in parliament as a law, he said, adding that after that, local government elections will be held as quickly as possible.

Shahe Alam said development projects sent from Sylhet to the Ministry of LGRD and Cooperatives would be given special consideration.

Regarding his visit to Sylhet, he said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been providing guidance from the very first day, and the Sylhet visit was made under his direction.

Earlier, the state minister visited the Kabi Nazrul auditorium at Rikabibazar in Sylhet city and the Dhopadighir walkway.

During the visit to Kabi Nazrul auditorium, he announced that the auditorium will now be operated under its previous name, that is, in the name of M. Saifur Rahman.
All formal procedures for the official approval of the name change have already been completed, he said.

Administrator of Sylhet City Corporation and President of Sylhet District BNP Abdul Quiyum Choudhury, Sylhet-3 lawmaker Mohammad Abdul Malek, Sylhet-6 lawmaker and General Secretary of Sylhet District BNP Emran Ahmed Chowdhury, Chief Executive Officer of SCC Muhammad Razaie Rafin Sarker, Chief Health Officer Dr. Zahidur Rahman and acting Chief Engineer Akbar Hossain, among others, were present.
