DHAKA, March 3, 2026 (BSS) - The 94th meeting of the Tripartite Consultative Council (TCC) and the 23rd meeting of the RMG Annual Tripartite Consultative Council (RMG TCC) were held today at CIRDAP International Conference Centre in the capital at the initiative of the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The meeting reviewed the overall labour situation in the country and discussed measures taken by the government to address labour dissatisfaction in the readymade garment (RMG) sector, according to a press release.

The issue of paying wages, allowances and granting leave to workers at factory labour centres on the occasion of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr was also discussed.

The event was chaired by Labour and Employment and Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser Arfil Haque Choudhury. Among others present were Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, Labour and Employment Adviser Md. Nurul Haque, and the Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin.

Addressing the meeting, Md. Nurul Haque directed factory authorities to pay workers’ wages within seven working days and ensure payment of the Eid bonus by March 12.

He stressed that employers and workers must work in coordination to prevent public suffering.

Nurul further stated that no layoffs or retrenchments could be carried out in labour centres without valid reasons.

In addition to the general holiday notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration, employers and workers will determine Eid holidays in labour centres through mutual discussions in line with the Bangladesh Labour Act.

In his special remarks, the PM’s Adviser Amin said that considering the prevailing domestic and global situation, allowances must be paid on time to prevent unrest among workers.

Labour representatives at the meeting demanded timely payment of allowances to factory workers ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr and called for extending maternity leave for women workers to six months.

Bangladesh Employers' Federation (BEF) President Fazlee Shamim Ehsan and TCC Vice President Md. Anwar Hossain also addressed the meeting.
