DHAKA, Mar 06, 2026 (BSS) - Riding on the remarkable success of the 'e-Bail Bond' in modernising the country's justice system, the government is set to expand the initiative to seven more districts, aiming to end long-standing delays, cut bureaucratic hurdles, and enhance transparency, accountability and efficiency in the bail process.
The system is expected to be launched soon in Bogura, Jhenaidah, Jashore, Magura, Rajshahi, Natore and Kushtia.
"Following the directive of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman, work to expand the programme has already begun. The 'e-Bail Bond' system is expected to be officially launched in the selected districts by the first week of April," said Additional Secretary of the Law and Justice Division Md Khadem Ul Kayes.
As part of the expansion, a consultation meeting was held on March 3, chaired by Law and Justice Division Secretary Liaquet Ali Molla, with the District and Sessions Judges or Metropolitan Sessions Judges, as well as the Chief Judicial Magistrates or Chief Metropolitan Magistrates of the seven districts concerned.
"In addition, a virtual consultation meeting was held on March 4 with government pleaders (GPs), public prosecutors (PPs) and leaders of the bar associations of the districts," Kayes added.
Since its introduction, the e-Bail Bond Management System has been launched in nine districts, marking a landmark step in modernising the judiciary by significantly improving transparency, accountability and efficiency in bail proceedings.
The system was first introduced in Narayanganj on October 15, 2025, addressing long-standing delays and bureaucratic hurdles that traditionally hampered bail procedures. In the second phase, it was rolled out on January 21 in Manikganj, Bandarban, Meherpur, Joypurhat, Moulvibazar, Panchagarh, Jhalokathi, and Sherpur, further expanding its reach nationwide.
According to ministry data, a total of 19,185 litigants have directly benefited from the service in the nine districts so far. Nearly 12,000 cases were completed in Narayanganj alone, while over 7,000 digital bail bonds have been processed in Manikganj, Bandarban, Moulvibazar, Sherpur, Joypurhat, Panchagarh, Meherpur and Jhalokathi.
"Earlier, completing a bail bond required going through 13 manual steps from the court to the jail. With the 'e-Bail Bond' system, the process is now completed in just three main steps, significantly speeding up bail proceedings," Joint Secretary (Admin-1) Md Azizul Haque told BSS.
The online bail bond submission system has also drastically reduced harassment by middlemen while enabling the quick release of accused persons.
"Officials of the ministry are working on a plan to gradually implement the digital bail bond submission system nationwide," Additional Secretary Md Khadem Ul Kayes added.
