CHATTOGRAM, Mar 7, 2026 (BSS) - Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has expressed his commitment to transforming Patenga Sea Beach into an international-standard tourism center through planned management, improved security and modern visitor facilities.

He made the remarks during a meeting of the Chattogram Beach Management Committee held at the conference room of the Chattogram Circuit House on Saturday.

The meeting focused on ensuring proper management and tourism development of the district's sea beaches, including Patenga and Parki Beach.

Speaking at the meeting, the mayor emphasized the need to maintain discipline at Patenga Sea Beach to make it more public-friendly and convenient for visitors. He proposed appointing 10 Ansar members to help monitor the area and maintain order.

Dr. Shahadat Hossain also noted that efforts have already been made to remove illegal encroachments from the beach through the intervention of magistrates under his direct supervision.

Highlighting the importance of environmental protection, the mayor stressed that the natural beauty of the beach must be preserved. He suggested that shops should be established in a planned manner to ensure convenience for tourists while maintaining the scenic environment.

According to the proposal, 280 shops may be set up at the beach, but they must be designed in a way that does not obstruct the movement of visitors or damage the natural landscape. He also emphasized that tourists should be able to buy necessary items at reasonable prices.

The mayor called for coordinated efforts among various organizations including the City Corporation, District Administration, Chattogram Development Authority (CDA), Tourist Police, tourism-related groups, law enforcement agencies and local residents to ensure effective management of the beach.

He expressed hope that through joint efforts, Patenga Sea Beach could be developed into a safe, clean and internationally recognized tourist destination.

Presiding over the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah stressed the importance of adopting a well-planned and long-term strategy to upgrade Patenga Beach to international standards. He highlighted the need to ensure tourist safety, modern entertainment facilities, and improved infrastructure.

Officials from the administration and law enforcement agencies attended the programme, among others.
