DHAKA, March 16, 2026 (BSS) - The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to reinstate 330 police recruits whose appointments were cancelled in 2007 on "political consideration".

According to an official order issued by the Police-2 Branch of the ministry on June 26, 2024, the cancelled recruitment orders of 123 police sergeants and 207 sub-inspectors (unarmed), who were selected in 2006, have been withdrawn.

The decision allows them to join government service subject to several conditions, according to a government order issued today.

They will receive retrospective seniority from the date they would have joined service had the recruitment process not been cancelled in 2007, though no financial benefits will be granted for the past period, it also said.

The recruits will have to complete six months of basic training and a total two-year probation period.

Their batch gradation will later be determined based on written and oral examination results in accordance with relevant government rules.

The order also states that if other candidates from the same recruitment batch apply for reinstatement in the future, their cases may be considered through the same process after verification by a committee and completion of police verification.
