
MANIKGANJ, March 16, 2026 (BSS) - Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita today inaugurated canal digging and re-excavation programmes in Manikganj as the chief guest.
As part of the initiative, the minister inaugurated the re-excavation work of the Taluk Nagar-Hapania canal, a one-kilometre-long waterway, in the presence of public representatives, government officials and local residents.
Speaking on the occasion, Afroza Khanam Rita said the re-excavation of canals will improve irrigation facilities in the area and expand agricultural activities.
She added that after the completion of the re-excavation of canals, ponds and other water bodies, agricultural development will be accelerated and fish production will also increase.
The minister said the initiative will bring positive changes to the overall environment of the area and create more employment opportunities for local people.
Member of Parliament for Manikganj-1 SA Jinnah Kabir and Deputy Commissioner of Manikganj Nazmun Ara Sultana were present as special guests.
People from different walks of life, including political leaders and government officials, also attended the programme.
