COX’S BAZAR, March 24, 2026 (BSS) - The world’s longest natural sea beach at Cox’s Bazar has come alive with an overwhelming surge of visitors during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, turning the shoreline into a vibrant tapestry of joy and festivity.
After a prolonged lull, the tourism-driven economy has found renewed energy, with businesses bustling once again.

To ensure safe sea bathing and a hassle-free travel experience, authorities have put in place stringent security measures across the beach and surrounding recreational spots.

According to hotel owners, nearly 400,000 tourists have flocked to Cox’s Bazar over the past three days. Even on Tuesday afternoon, as the holidays begin to draw to a close, the Sugandha Point area remained lively with steady stream of visitors.

From Laboni Point to Kolatoli Point, the entire stretch of the beach radiates excitement. Visitors stroll along the vast sandy expanse, while others indulge in beach biking, horse riding, and jet skiing.

Many are seen soaking in the cool sea breeze or capturing cherished moments on camera. Yet for most, the ultimate allure lies in immersing themselves in the soothing embrace of the salty sea.

Rushaifa and Wasifa, children of a couple visiting from Mirpur in Dhaka, shared their delight after riding horses for the first time. Though initially frightened, they soon found the experience thrilling and unforgettable.

Al Amin, a tourist from Munshiganj, expressed his joy, saying, “Celebrating Eid in Cox’s Bazar is truly special. Riding jet skis with friends and bathing in the sea—it’s been an incredible time.”

Abul Kashem Sikder, president of the Cox’s Bazar Residential Hotel-Motel-Guest House Owners’ Association, said that at least 400,000 tourists have visited since Eid day. Although the numbers have started to taper off from Tuesday, a strong presence is expected to continue through Friday.

Tourism stakeholders noted that the beach remained largely deserted for nearly one and a half months during Ramadan following the national parliamentary elections, leading to widespread frustration among business owners. However, the festive influx of visitors during Eid has restored vitality to the sector.

Photographers, beach bike operators, horse handlers, and vendors of Burmese goods are now experiencing peak activity.

Horse handler Mohammad Islam reported earning around 2,000 taka within just two hours. Beach bike operator Md. Russell said that while earnings were negligible during Ramadan, the tourist rush has significantly boosted income.

Jet ski operator Md. Saddam also confirmed a sharp rise in business.

Meanwhile, rising wave intensity has increased the risks associated with sea bathing. Lifeguards are urging visitors to strictly follow safety guidelines.

Md. Imtiaz Ahmed, manager of Sea Safe Lifeguard, said that hundreds of thousands of tourists are currently present on the beach, with numbers expected to grow further. However, managing three key points with only 27 personnel has become increasingly challenging.

He added that as winter recedes and early signs of the monsoon appear, the sea is becoming more turbulent, demanding heightened vigilance from lifeguards.

Inspector Zahidul Islam of the Tourist Police Cox’s Bazar Zone stated that maximum measures have been taken to ensure visitor safety. Permanent teams are stationed at Kolatoli, Laboni, and Sugandha beaches, with continuous monitoring in place.

In addition, mobile patrol teams operate round the clock using pickup vehicles and motorcycles.

Law enforcement agencies, he emphasized, are making every effort to ensure that tourists can enjoy a safe, pleasant, and memorable experience.
