Coast Guard seizes huge illegal nets in Teknaf's Baharchhara

DHAKA, April 3, 2026 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG), country's maritime law enforcement agency, in a joint drive has seized a huge amount of illegal nets worth about Taka 118 crore in Baharchhara area of Teknaf.

"Acting on a tip-off, the BCG members in Teknaf's outpost Baharchhara and the Fisheries Department jointly conducted a raid at Shamlapur Bazar of Baharchhara Union under Teknaf Police Station from 5 pm to 8 pm on Thursday," BCG Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan said this today.

Subsequently, searching two warehouses there, the BCG personnel seized 60 lakh meters of illegal charghera nets, 40 lakh meters of current nets and 20 behundi nets worth about Tk 118 crore, he said.

None, however, was arrested as the illegal net traders managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of the forces, he added.

Subsequently, the seized illegal nets were destroyed in the presence of the Teknaf Upazila Fisheries Representative.
