Community policing must be strengthened to make it people-friendly: Sarwar

DHAKA, Apr 16, 2026 (BSS) — Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Acting Commissioner Md. Sarwar has emphasized the need to strengthen community policing to build a people-friendly policing system. 

“It must be ensured that citizens receive their expected legal services from police stations,” he said.

He made these remarks today while addressing senior police officers at the monthly crime review meeting for March, held at the DMP Headquarters conference room.

The Acting Commissioner further stated that the overall law and order situation in Dhaka metropolis is currently stable. 

“To maintain this stability, all members of police must remain vigilant,” he also said. 

He instructed to intensify foot patrols, conduct drives to recover illegal drugs, and arrest warrant-listed accused.

Sarwar also directed officers to stay alert to prevent any crime from occurring within the jurisdiction of the police stations.

Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S.M. Nazrul Islam said that public expectations from the police are high, and officers must work with greater dedication to meet those expectations. 

He added that a zero-tolerance policy will be followed in maintaining law and order.

At the meeting, police officials of various ranks were awarded in different categories in recognition of their outstanding performance in maintaining law and order, controlling crime, and ensuring public safety in Dhaka during March.

Among others present at the meeting were Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S.M. Nazrul Islam, Additional Commissioner (Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime) Md. Masud Karim, Additional Commissioner (DB) Md. Shafiqul Islam, Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Anisur Rahman, Additional Commissioner (Protection and Diplomatic Security) Sana Shaminur Rahman, Additional Commissioner (Estate, Development and ICT) Mohammad Osman Gani along with Joint Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Additional Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, Officers-in-Charge of all police stations , and other officers.
