DHAKA, April 26, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today convicted and sentenced one Sayed Ahmed to death in a case filed over the killing of his wife, Rehana Begum, in Kamrangirchar in 2012 over dowry demands.

The court also fined him Taka two lakh and ordered the authorities concerned to sell his movable and immovable properties, if necessary, to realise the amount and hand it over to Rehana's son.

Judge Munshi Moshiar Rahman of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 pronounced the judgment this afternoon.

According to the case documents, Sayed had been physically abusing his wife Rehana regularly for dowry since their marriage in 2010.

On September 29, 2012, Rehana's mother went to their house and found her daughter dead. Sayed and his family claimed that Rehana had died of heatstroke and hurriedly buried her at Azimpur Graveyard.

However, Rehana's mother, Rejia Begum, filed the case on October 12, 2012. The court later ordered the exhumation of the body and an autopsy.

The autopsy report revealed that Rehana had been beaten and strangled to death.

Investigation Officer and CID Inspector Lutfar Rahman submitted the charge sheet against Sayed, and a total of 11 witnesses testified in the case on different hearing dates.
