Tea worker killed, two injured in lightning strike in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH, April 26, 2026 (BSS) - A tea worker was killed and two others were seriously injured in a lightning strike in Atwari upazila of the district this morning. 

The deceased, Sarwardi, 21, was the son of Abu Samad from Sonapatila village under Dhamor union. The injured workers, Mostafa, 45, and Jaherul Islam, 43, are also from the same area. They are currently receiving treatment at Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital.

According to local sources, Sarwardi and several others went to a tea garden in Sonapatila village early in the morning to collect tea leaves. During work, a sudden spell of rain accompanied by lightning struck the workers, leaving three of them injured. 

Later, Sarwardi succumbed to his injuries, while the other two victims were admitted to the district hospital in critical condition.

Abu Taher Md. Dulal, Chairman of Dhamor Union Parishad, confirmed the incident.
