DHAKA, April 26, 2026 (BSS) - The government has formed investigation committees and warned of strict action against those responsible following allegations of irregularities in the school feeding programme.

The move follows media reports that several primary school students fell ill after consuming substandard and spoiled food under the mid-day meal scheme in Chapainawabganj Sadar and Madaripur Sadar upazilas, an official release said.

The deputy commissioner of Madaripur has constituted a five-member probe committee to investigate the incident.

The project director has also issued show-cause notices to food suppliers, asking why their contracts should not be cancelled.

Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has directed the deputy commissioner of Chapainawabganj to form a probe committee, including the civil surgeon, to ensure a comprehensive inquiry.

Meanwhile, the district primary education officer of Chapainawabganj has already submitted an investigation report, and similar show-cause notices will be served to the suppliers concerned there.

Legal action will be taken against those found responsible under the Food Safety Act, emphasizing the government's commitment to ensuring safe and nutritious food for students.
