CHATTOGRAM, May 11, 2026 (BSS) - Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain today stressed the need to prioritize waste management for a sustainable and livable city.

In this regard, public awareness in waste management is crucial, said the mayor, noting that simply investing in cleaning canals and drains will not be effective without community involvement.

Speaking as the chief guest, he made the remarks at a MoU signing ceremony on "Development of Plastic Waste Management in Chattogram City" at a hotel here.

The tripartite MoU was signed by the CCC, Unilever Bangladesh and non-governmental development organization Young Power in Social Action (YPSA). Through the MoU, the partnership in the waste collection program has been renewed for another two years.

Shahadat said concerted efforts among the CCC, private sector and civil society can improve services at the ward level and address environmental challenges effectively.

Ruhul Quddus Khan, CEO of Unilever Bangladesh Limited, Mohammad Arifur Rahman, CEO of YPSA and Captain Ikhtiar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Chief Conservancy Officer of CCC, among others, addressed the programme.

During the event, two waste collectors and two scrap dealers were honored for their significant contributions to plastic waste management.
