DHAKA, May 11, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Acting Commissioner Md Sarwar today inaugurated solar-powered traffic signal lights at the Airport intersection in Uttara as part of efforts to restore discipline in the capital's traffic management system.

Addressing the function as the chief guest, Sarwar said more than 300 cases had been filed against traffic law violators over the past week using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

"Once the system becomes fully operational, more than 1,000 cases will be filed daily automatically," he said.

He said digital cases would be generated automatically if vehicles violate traffic rules by crossing intersections unlawfully or driving on the wrong side of the road.

The DMP acting commissioner said the initiative was not intended merely as a punitive measure, but rather to bring back traffic discipline in Dhaka city through modern technology-based management.

He also urged journalists to help raise public awareness about the new system aimed at modernising the capital's traffic infrastructure.

Senior DMP officials and local dignitaries attended the inauguration ceremony.
