DHAKA, May 11, 2026 (BSS) - International Nurses Day will be observed
tomorrow in Bangladesh as elsewhere across the world through various
programmes.

The day is observed annually on this date marking the birth anniversary of
the founder of modern nursing Florence Nightingale.

This year's theme of the day is: "Our Nurses. Our Future - Caring for Nurses
Strengthens Economies."

In Bangladesh, different government and private health institutions and
organisations will celebrate the day with various events.

The Society for Nurses Safety and Rights (SNSR) will organise a colourful
rally, cake-cutting ceremony and discussion meeting marking the occasion.

The rally will begin at 8:30 am from in front of the National Institute of
Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Besides, a discussion meeting will be held at the National Press Club at 2:00
pm.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon will attend the
event as the chief guest, while Nurses Association of Bangladesh (NAB)
President Jahanara Parveen will preside over the programme.

The Nurses Association of Bangladesh has been observing the day since 1974.

Although the observance was previously limited in Dhaka, it is now being
celebrated across the country at government and private healthcare
institutions and other organizations.
