Bridge minister lays foundation stone of Padma Bridge Museum at Jajira end

DHAKA, May 11, 2026 (BSS) - Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Robiul 
Alam today said the Padma Bridge is a unique example of engineering 
excellence and will serve as an open learning platform for researchers and 
students.

"The Padma Bridge is a unique example of construction engineering. Our future 
generations will draw inspiration of patriotism and self-reliance from Padma 
Bridge Museum," he said.

The minister made the remarks while laying the foundation stone of the Padma 
Bridge Museum at the Jajira end and inaugurating a tree plantation.

The minister said the museum would preserve the story of the historic 
struggle, the response to international conspiracies and the remarkable 
engineering journey behind the Padma Bridge construction.

The museum is being constructed with the Bangladesh Bridge Authority's own 
funding and will preserve documents, rare photographs, digital models and 
parts of heavy machinery used in the construction process from planning to 
implementation of the bridge project.

About tree plantation program, he said the government aims to ensure harmony 
between development and environmental protection and so that extensive tree 
plantation around the bridge area.

The tree-plantation program is part of the Prime Minister's announced plan to 
plant 250 million trees over the next five years to maintain environmental 
balance.

Under the programme, a total of 100,000 fruit-bearing, forest and medicinal 
trees will be planted at both ends of the Padma Bridge over the next five 
years.
