BAGERHAT, May 11, 2026 (BSS) - Four alleged drug dealers in Mongla have surrendered to police after serving prison terms in drug-related cases, pledging to abandon the drug trade and reintegrate into mainstream society.
The four individuals formally surrendered at Mongla Police Station this morning. Their move was welcomed by local residents and members of the conscious community. They said it was a positive step toward social rehabilitation.
The surrenderers were identified as Chalma Begum, Asma Begum, Farida Begum and Shamsul Morol, all residents of the Shrama Kalyan Road area No. 5 under Mongla municipality.
Officer-in-Charge of Mongla Police Station Atiqur Rahman said anti-drug operations are continuing across different areas of the upazila under directives from the Home Ministry.
He said police are conducting regular drives to arrest drug dealers and users while recovering illegal narcotics.
According to the OC, the four surrendered on Monday with a written commitment that they would not engage in drug dealing or any similar criminal activities in the future.
"If they become involved in drug dealing again, stricter legal action will be taken against them under the existing law," he warned.
Local residents expressed hope that such voluntary surrenders would send a positive message across society and encourage others to abandon criminal activities and return to a normal life.
