Ex-DGFI Director Afzal Naser remanded afresh in attempt to murder case

DHAKA, May 11, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today placed former Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) director and dismissed Lieutenant Colonel Md Afzal Naser on another three-day remand in a case filed over the alleged attempt to murder Jagannath University (JnU) student Anik Kumar Das during the July Mass Uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Hasibuzzaman passed the order as police produced Naser before the court and pleaded to place him on a five-day remand in the case.

Earlier on May 5, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Zunayed had placed him on a three-day remand in the case.

A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Bangladesh Police arrested Afzal Naser from his residence in Mirpur DOHS on March 30, 2026.

According to the case documents, Anik was shot by activists of Awami League, Jubo League and Bangladesh Chhatra League in front of the main gate of the university on July 16, 2024. He was first taken to National Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment.

The victim later filed the case against 253 people on November 21, 2024.
