DHAKA, May 11, 2026 (BSS) - Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today reaffirmed the government's commitment to transforming Bangladesh Police into a modern, technology-driven and people-friendly force to strengthen the rule of law, ensure public safety and create an investment-friendly environment.

"A professional and efficient police force is indispensable for safeguarding democracy and establishing justice," he said.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a special conference of senior police officials at the Rajarbagh Police Auditorium.

Referring to the 19-point programme of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and late BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's "Vision 2030", he said the government aims to uphold the rule of law at every level under the slogan "Bangladesh First".

The minister said ending enforced disappearances, killings and extrajudicial deaths remains one of the government's major priorities.

He highly praised the professionalism of Bangladesh Police, particularly its contributions to UN peacekeeping missions and its role in maintaining security at the Rohingya camps.

Expressing optimism about the force, he urged police personnel to perform their duties with patriotism, honesty and integrity to help build a prosperous Bangladesh.

Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani and Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry Manzur Morshed Chowdhury addressed the programme as special guests.

Additional IGP of the Criminal Investigation Department Mosleh Uddin Ahmed delivered the welcome speech, while Inspector General of Police Md Ali Hossain Fakir gave the vote of thanks.

Police Headquarters IGP (Administration) AKM Awlad Hossain was also present.

During the conference, the minister listened to various demands raised by senior police officials and assured that the government would implement them gradually, considering financial capacity, priorities and affordability.

He also stressed the importance of improving police performance, saying the implementation of many demands would largely depend on efficiency and professionalism.

Senior officials of Bangladesh Police, including Additional IGPs, DIGs, Additional DIGs and Superintendents of Police, attended the conference.
