State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam received the bodies at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) and later handed them over to the family members of the deceased.

On the occasion, she expressed deep sorrow over their untimely and tragic deaths and conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

Shafiqul Islam, son of Afsar Ali and Ajea Khatun, was a resident of Valuka Chandpur village under Satkhira Sadar upazila while Md Nahidul Islam Nahid, son of Md Abdul Kader and Nurnahar Khatun, was a resident of Kadakati Union under Assasuni upazila of the same district.

Both had been working in Lebanon for many years and had been making significant contributions to their families and the national economy through regular remittance transfers.

The bodies were transported on Qatar Airways Flight QR-0427, which departed Beirut International Airport at 6:25 pm local time on June 5, 2026.

They subsequently arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport early on June 7 (late night of June 6) aboard Qatar Airways Flight QR-0642.

In close coordination with the relevant Lebanese authorities, the embassy secured certified police reports, repatriation permits and completed all other required formalities.

The Government of Bangladesh continues to closely monitor the situation of Bangladeshi nationals working in Lebanon through its embassy in Beirut and remains committed to ensuring their safety, welfare and necessary assistance, said the foreign ministry here.
