DHAKA, Jun 17, 2026 (BSS) - Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md. Abdus Salam said rapid waste removal is currently the corporation's top priority as mosquito control activities continue.

He made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at a programme held at Nagar Bhaban auditorium today, where the Prime Minister's special Eid-ul-Azha grant was distributed among sanitation workers. 

A total of 4,950 DSCC sanitation workers received Tk 5,000 each.

He highlighted that sanitation workers perform some of the most difficult duties in the city corporation and expressed hope that, with continued public awareness and their efforts, Dhaka's appearance could be significantly improved within the next two years. 

He also called on media workers to support awareness-building alongside sanitation staff.

The administrator raised concerns about household waste management under the current ward-based tender system, noting irregular waste collection in some areas and allegations of extra charges. 

He said the system's continuation is under review and a new approach may be introduced if service quality does not improve.

He thanked sanitation workers for their effective waste removal during Eid-ul-Azha, which helped keep the city free from foul odors. 

He also mentioned ongoing initiatives to improve their welfare, including housing projects and expanding health card coverage from 1,000 to 6,000 workers.

DSCC also plans to support sanitation workers' children in higher education to prevent financial hardship.

He emphasized that keeping Dhaka clean requires joint responsibility between authorities and citizens.
