Indian goods worth around Tk 1.48 cr seized in N'ganj

DHAKA, June 17, 2026 (BSS) - The Coast Guard has seized a large quantity of Indian goods worth about Taka 1.48 crore from Pagla Bazar area in Narayanganj.

Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan confirmed the information this afternoon.

He said that acting on a tip-off early today, the Coast Guard conducted a special operation in the Pagla Bazar adjacent area of Narayanganj. 

During the operation, three suspicious vans were searched and a large consignment of illegally imported Indian sarees, medicines and cosmetic products worth about Tk 1,47,76,000 evading customs duties, was seized.

Sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, the smugglers fled the scene and no one could be arrested.

The seized goods were handed over to the Banshal Circle Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate.
He further said that the Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to prevent smuggling.
