DHAKA, June 27, 2026 (BSS)- Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Freedom Fighter Abdus Salam today called for building a social movement by creating awareness among people to ensure safe food for all.
He made the call while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion marking ‘World Food Safety Day’ and the 6th founding anniversary of Food Safety Movement, a social organization, said a press release here.
The organization arranged the event at the Capital Market Journalists Forum auditorium in Bijoynagar in the city.
In his address, DSCC Administrator said food safety is directly linked to people's everyday lives and that ensuring safe food cannot be achieved through enforcement drives alone.
"Public awareness remains one of the biggest challenges in ensuring food safety. A safe food system can only be established through the collective efforts of producers, traders, consumers and all relevant stakeholders," he said.
He stressed the need to take food safety awareness campaigns beyond seminars and conferences by reaching mosques, madrasas and other public spaces.
Regarding pavement and mobile food stalls, the Administrator said, "Alongside food courts, the trend of selling food from vans in the capital has increased. There is a need to monitor the quality of water used in preparing these foods and the cleaning processes involved."
He also informed that DSCC is continuing regular mobile court operations, monitoring, and public awareness activities to ensure safe food for city dwellers.
Prof Dr. Mahmudul Islam Selim, Acting President of the Food Safety Movement, presided over the event while food safety experts, representatives of various government and non-government organizations, journalists, academics, and members of the organization were present.
