Info secretary urges journalists for investigative reporting

DHAKA, June 28, 2026 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba 
Farjana today said urged journalists to bring out the story behind the story 
through investigative journalism. 

"Amid the flood of misinformation, rumors and false information circulating 
on Facebook, I urge you to bring out the story behind the story through 
investigative journalism," she said.

Speaking as the chief guest, she made the call while addressing the BSRF 
Fruit Festival organized by the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) 
at the Secretariat Media Centre.

Describing journalism as a noble profession, the secretary said journalists 
have embraced a great responsibility and deserve greater support from all 
concerned.

"I hope our officials at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will 
ensure that our journalist friends are not inconvenienced in any way," she 
said.

Referring to the growing interest of young people in journalism, Mahbuba 
Farjana said, "It is a positive trend and expressed the hope that journalists 
would always verify facts and publish accurate information."

She also stressed the prerequisite of double-check and verify information 
before releasing the story. 

BSRF President Masudul Haque presided over the program and General Secretary 
Ubaidullah Badal conducted it.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Md Shah 
Alam, Principal Information Officer Syed Abdal Ahmed, Managing Director of 
the Journalist Welfare Trust Bachhir Jamal, former DRU President and BSRF 
founding executive member Shakhawat Hossain Badsha, former BSRF presidents 
Tapan Biswas and Fasih Uddin Mahtab, and senior members of the organisation 
were present at the event.
