
SYLHET, June 30, 2026 (BSS)- The bodies of five Bangladeshi expatriates who
were killed in a road accident in Qatar arrived here today.
The bodies were flown to Osmani International Airport here this morning by a
Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight. The repatriation was financed by the Wage
Earners' Welfare Board of the government.
After completing the necessary formalities at the airport, the Expatriates'
Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry handed over the bodies to the
victims' families.
All five victims were residents of Kanaighat upazila of the district.
They are-- Abdul Kadir of Gachhbari village, Mustak Ahmed Afnan and Zubayer
Ahmed of Majhtaluk village, Jasim Uddin of Agataluk village and Jibal Ahmed
of Amarpur village.
According to the official sources, the flight carrying the bodies departed
from Hamad International Airport of Qatar on Monday night and arrived in
Sylhet this morning, after which the handover process began.
Local lawmaker Mufti Abul Hasan, leaders of the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, the
secretary of the district Red Crescent Society, local Union Parishad Chairmen
concerned and other dignitaries were present at the airport.
The five Bangladeshis were killed in a tragic road accident in the Shahaniya
area of Qatar on June 21 last.
Following the accident, the Bangladesh Embassy in Qatar completed the
required legal procedures to facilitate the repatriation of the bodies
In a statement signed by Labour Councillor Mohammad Mashhudul Kabir of the
Embassy's Labour Welfare Wing, said all arrangements for transporting the
bodies had been made with funding from the Bangladesh Wage Earners' Welfare
Board.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment has
taken the necessary steps to ensure the proper handover of the bodies to the
bereaved families and facilitate the government assistance to which they are
entitled.
