KHULNA, July 3, 2026 (BSS) – Police have filed a case against 55 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League on charges of conspiring against the government, creating public panic and carrying out activities of banned organisations.

The case was lodged on Thursday night with Khulna Sadar Police Station by Sub-Inspector Tapan Kumar Pal, naming 15 accused and 40 unidentified persons.

Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Khulna Sadar Police Station Md Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter this morning, saying police were conducting drives to arrest the accused.

The named accused include AL leaders Ranabir Barai Sajal, Anup Sarkar, Mridul, Khulna City Chhatra League Joint General Secretary Tayeful Islam Taj, Prosenjit, Md Shahidul Islam, Rahat Ali Morol, Anik Hasan Parvez, Goutam Sarkar Kakon, Ashafur Dhali, Gopal Chandra Saha, Md Akter Shikder, Monirul Islam Moni, Rajib Ahmed, Khulna District Jubo League Office Secretary Asaduzzaman Khan Riaz and Md Rafiqul Islam Pintu.

According to the first information report (FIR), the accused gathered in front of Islami Bank Hospital adjacent to Tarer Pukur under Khulna Sadar Police Station between 4:45 am and 5:55 am on Wednesday.

The FIR alleged that they conspired to overthrow the current government, damage key installations in the city and disrupt road communications between Khulna and other districts by throwing bricks and attempting to vandalise vehicles.

Police also alleged that the accused chanted slogans in favour of the banned Chhatra League and Awami League and against the government, creating panic among the public. The accused reportedly fled the scene before police arrived.

The FIR said police later identified the suspects through CCTV footage and information collected from local residents.

It further alleged that the accused had been secretly holding meetings, collecting funds and recruiting activists to reorganize the banned organisations and engage in extremist activities aimed at destabilising the country's law and order situation.
