Govt issues gazette notification forming three new upazilas

DHAKA, July 8, 2026 (BSS) - The government has issued gazette notifications constituting three new upazilas by bifurcating existing upazilas in Chattogram, Mymensingh and Cumilla districts.

The Cabinet Division's NIKAR-1 Branch issued three separate notifications today in this regard.

According to the notifications, the government, in line with the decision taken at the 121st meeting of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation (NIKAR), has formed Fatikchhari North Upazila by separating six unions from Fatikchhari Upazila in Chattogram district.

The six unions are Bagan Bazar, Dantmara, Narayanhat, Bhujpur, Harualchhari and Suabil.

The notification also approved the office set-up for various government offices in the newly formed upazila.

In another notification, the government announced the formation of South Gafargaon Upazila by carving out eight unions from Gafargaon Upazila in Mymensingh district.

The unions included in the new upazila are Moshakhali, Panchbagh, Usthi, Longair, Paithal, Datter Bazar, Niguari and Tangab.

The government also approved the office establishment for different public offices in the new administrative unit.

A separate notification said Bangra Upazila has been created by separating 10 unions from Muradnagar Upazila in Cumilla district.

The unions are Sreekail, Akubpur, Andikot, Purba Dhoir (East), Purba Dhoir (West), Bangra (East), Bangra (West), Chapitala, Ramchandrapur (North) and Tonki.

The notification said the office set-up for various government offices in Bangra Upazila has also been approved.
