DHAKA, Sept 7, 2026 (BSS) – The foreign affairs ministry today reviewed the present state and future potential of Bangladesh’s blue economy, focusing on the sustainable use of marine resources to support economic growth and environmental conservation.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, MP, chaired the briefing held at the ministry, said a foreign ministry’s press release here. 

Dr Md Saimum Parvez, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam attended the event.

Commodore Sheikh Mahmudul Hassan (Retd), Head of the Maritime Affairs Unit, delivered a presentation highlighting the prospects and challenges of Bangladesh’s key blue economy sectors.

The presentation covered marine fisheries and mariculture, ports and shipping, offshore energy, coastal tourism and the conservation of marine biodiversity.

It also underscored the importance of harnessing the country’s maritime resources sustainably to unlock new economic opportunities while protecting marine ecosystems.
