DHAKA, June 16, 2026 (BSS) – The government will import four more Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) cargoes, totaling around 1.28 crore MMBTu, within this month.

 “We’ve brought five LNG cargoes carrying 1.60 crore MMBTu gas from spot market and short term agreement to maintain supply chain stable,” director of Petrobangla AKM Mizanur Rahman told BSS here today.

He said the government will bring a total of nine LNG loaded cargoes for meeting the demand in June, of which five cargoes have arrived till June 15.

According to Petrobangla, the government procured nine LNG cargoes for June, of which five from spot market and under term agreement, while four will come from spot market.

In May Bangladesh received 11 cargos of LNG totaling around 3.52 crore MMBTu under the long term and short term agreements along with the spot markets. 

The Petrobangla director, however, said that Bangladesh has been importing LNG cargo regularly under long term, short term agreement as well as spot markets to meet the growing energy demand in the country.

He said that on an average 32 lakh MMBTu (Million British Thermal units) LNG was in each cargo.
According to RPGCL information, QatarEnergy, an LNG operating company and OQ Trading (OQT), a premier energy and commodity trading firm of the government of Oman usually supply LNG to Bangladesh under long term deal.

Besides, the United Arab Emirates based OQT supplies liquefied natural gas under short term agreement.

Apart from this, the government every month procures LNG cargoes from spot markets with approval from the purchase committee.
