Three more new national records set on second day

DHAKA, Feb 18, 2025 (BSS)-Three more new national records 
have been set on the second day of the 48th National 
Athletics competition held at national stadium in the 
capital on Monday. 

With the day's feat, four new national records were created 
in the first two days. 

Earlier, on the first day, Golam Sarowar of Bangladesh Navy 
set the new national record in the men’s shot put event.

Nazmul Hossain Ronny of Bangladesh Army finally broke the 
old record after thirty one years in the men’s 400m hurdles 
clocking 50.84 second erasing the previous mark of 1:04.70 
seconds set by Bangladesh Navy’s Abdur Rohim Noyem in 1993. 

Borsha Khatun of Bangladesh Army set the new national record 
in the women’s 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.61 seconds 
eclipsing the old record of her team mate Libiya Khatun set 
in 2022. 

Meanwhile, Shirin Akter, Sonia Akter Sumiya Dewan and Kobita 
Roy of Bangladesh Navy set the new national record in the 
women’s 4*100m relay clocking 46.43 seconds bettering the 
previous record of 48.10 second set by Army’s Sumiya Dewan, 
Shorifa Khatun, Saniya Akter and Borsha Khatun in 2022.

After the second day, Bangladesh army dominated the medal 
tally with 15 gold, 14 silver and equal number of bronze 
medals and Bangladesh Navy bagged 13 gold, 12 silver and 8 
bronze medals.

Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan secured two silver  and 
one bronze medal.    
         
A total of 445 athletes –- 338 of men and 107 of women -- 
from 41 association including 24 district and divisional 
sports associations across the country, six public 
universities, two physical education colleges, nine 
military, civil and other organizations are taking part in 
the competition.
