Mahmudullah retires from International cricket

DHAKA, March 12, 2025 (BSS)--Bangladesh's veteran cricketer Mahmudullah Riyad today announced his retirement from International cricket, ending an illustrious career.

He made the announcement through a post on his social media platforms.

"I have decided to retire from international cricket," his post read.

"I would like to thank all of my teammates, coaches & specially my fans who have always supported me."

Mahmudullah earlier retired from Test cricket in 2021 and T20 International in 2024.

"A big thank you to my parents, my in laws specially my father in law & most importantly my brother Emdad Ullah who has been there for me constantly since my childhood as my coach & mentor," he added.

"And finally thanks to my wife & kids who have been my support system through thick & thin."

" I know Raeid will miss me in red & green jersey. Not everything comes to an end in a perfect way but you say yes & move forward. PEACE........... Best wishes to my team & Bangladesh cricket," the post concluded.

His retirement came a week after the retirement of Mushfiqur Rahim from ODI cricket.

In a career spanning over 17 years, the 39-year old played many match winning knocks that made him one of the greats of Bangladesh.

He is the only Bangladesh player to have hit three centuries in ODI World Cups with two of them coming in the 2015 edition and one in 2023.

The seasoned campaigner represented Bangladesh in 239 ODIs, 50 Tests and 141 T20Is.

In ODI cricket, he finished as Bangladesh's fourth-highest run-getter, behind Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal, with 5,689 runs at an average of 36.46, including four hundreds and 32 fifties.
